TESTS OF LOVE

TESTS OF LOVE

So we escaped and married in Italy. That's how we did everything, in our own way, unconventionally, testing preconceptions as we tried to find our own path; that's how we started living...

As there was no planning this way of life, our first son Pietro came to our life like love did as well. We had no money, we didn’t need any (at least that was what we thought in that moment). Pietro was born lifeless, and our first test in life came with that – learning to stay to together and acting fast in a difficult situation like that one; without hesitation, always putting the important things first. We managed to come out, the three of us, together, safer and stronger than ever. We have faced more trials since then with Pietro, so thank God we were able to face them with the same attitude as before, with love. Our cornerstone is to work hard and do great things in life, which is exactly what Pietro’s name stands for...

Things started to settle down and we were able to set up Estudio Pietra, our own firm of art, restoration, architecture, as well as being a small furniture workshop. We were able to work as architects with clients such as Saul E. Mendez in many of his early projects. We had this vision of a contemporary way of living and we were always searching for clients that we could share this vision with; of how we saw the future of art and architecture in Guatemala.

We started art restoration at the Cathedral, looking for ways to highlight all the treasures hidden within it. We also worked at Palacio Arzobispal, and on the design for a Museum to keep these treasures, but it unfortunately never materialised.

We worked with Luis Gonzalez Palma and Dario Escobar, among others in Colloquia, the first contemporary Art Foundation in Guatemala.

We won the first Biennal of Architecture with the Glass House, this being something that put us under the spotlight at a at a very early stage of our career.

We were interviewed by CNN to discuss our projects and innovations, as well the architectural way in which we see life..

Amongst all this, Crisol came into our lives, our daughter. She was unique, always showing her strong personality from a very early stage. Along with her came this new feeling, a need that we couldn’t express in the work we were doing at that time. We needed something else, but we didn’t know what it was. Crisol’s name stands for the recipient where all work is created
