COFFEE CULTURE

COFFEE CULTURE

Coffee Culture is something that actually, we have all had in us since childhood, we just don't seem to notice it. Who remembers those afternoon breaks after class that consisted of a milky coffee with sweet bread or biscuits?

In my case, I grew up in that sort of way. My maternal grandfather harvested coffee, so we never went without it. It was always like that, I never paid great attention to this dark, bitter drink, until the day came when, upon finding my first job, I ventured into this great world of coffee.

At the start, the hardest part was trying to identify all these possible flavours in a single cup. You often read articles, notes or see posts online where they offer such specific descriptions of it, that you begin to think that you’re entering some sort of underworld. Despite this, with time and after multiple cups of coffee, you start to find every sip heavenly.

Every time a cup of coffee is made, you learn more about it. Coffee is a social drink that not only comes with its flavours, but also stories, thoughts and emotions. As times passes, you start to see coffee as a necessary part of beginning or ending the day. Slowly, you start to become more interested in it and eventually discover more with it.

Currently, we are finding ourselves in what is referred to as the ‘third wave’ of coffee where we come across people like the purists, who create coffee using original methods - without much evolution, but still with that great flavour. Meanwhile, on the other hand, we have those people that experiment with coffee every day, where every method of extraction, old or new, is a challenge. A challenge where the star of the show is always the coffee itself.

People may often ask themselves, especially when seeing everything that occurs in the world of coffee, “How should coffee really be drunk?” The answer is simple: whichever way it is you prefer it. Every person has their own preference which is why every cup of coffee is different. Although, sometimes it is good to go stores that specialised in coffee, where there are always plenty of options, and try something new.

Baristas are always open to explain and teach new things. With that, whenever you least expect it, you will be submerged into this simple and friendly world, accompanied with a good cup of coffee.
